1. Keyboard:
This first one is obvious, but it still should be noted. The Type Cover is a necessity, and it’s a crime that the Surface Pro doesn’t come with one, and, while you don’t technically NEED the type cover, it is extremely beneficial to have one. If the Microsoft Type Cover is just too expensive for you, then here are some alternatives:
- Jelly Comb Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Connection through USB Receiver
- Bluetooth Keyboard w/ Touchpad
- Bluetooth Keyboard (no touchpad)
- Get a mouse as well
*NOTE: I prefer the wireless connection through USB Receiver. I’ve has some issues connecting Bluetooth devices to my Surface. For whatever reason, it seems to cause issues with my WiFi connection—this is likely unique to my computer though, so I wouldn’t let that stop you from a buying a Bluetooth keyboard. I just thought I should mention that.
2. USB HUB:
Okay, so unfortunately, the Surface Pro 4 (and every Surface Pro model to my knowledge) only has one USB port. This is fine for when you’re out and about; however, when I’m home, the Surface Pro works as my regular computer, and sometimes I need multiple devices connected (wireless keyboard and mouse, storage devices, microphone, etc.). Having a USB hub for the Surface Pro 4 on hand is a must have as far as I’m concerned. Also, make sure you buy one with a network/Ethernet port. Might as well kill two birds with one stone. In fact, I am only going to recommend USB hubs for the Surface Pro that are Network Adapter as well.
3. A Second Display:
When you’re not home, the screen on the Surface Pro might be sufficient, but, for me, my Surface is my primary computer on which I do all work and hobby related stuff, so, for the purpose of multitasking, I have a second monitor. Believe me when I say, it makes a world of difference.

You will need a Mini DisplayPort adapter or a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cord to connect your Surface Pro 4 to the external monitor.
4. A Protective Case:
